Get to Know Chelly

Chelly Pennington is a committed family law attorney and mediator who brings empathy and experience to her practice. Moving to Wilmington, North Carolina, in 2002, she earned her broker’s license and paralegal degree before discovering her passion for the legal field. Chelly graduated with honors in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Campbell University in 2010 and obtained her Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2013. She was admitted to the North Carolina Bar that same year.

During law school, Chelly was actively engaged in the Women’s Law Caucus, worked in the Domestic Violence and Juvenile Law Clinics, and contributed articles to the North Carolina Bar Association’s publication. Before establishing her own practice, she honed her expertise as an Associate Attorney at Congdon Law in Fuquay Varina. Her firm currently focuses on Family Law, Estate Planning, Business Law, and Personal Injury. Chelly is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the NC Real Estate Commission.

Chelly’s drive to help clients through divorce stems from personal experience: she was raised by a single father and has been through her own divorce. This unique perspective fuels her dedication to supporting clients as they navigate complex life changes. Flamingos are her spirit animal, symbolizing her vibrant approach to life and work. Chelly enjoys sports, especially baseball and hockey, and is a loyal Steelers fan. A lover of adventure, she is scuba certified, has been skydiving, and treasures time spent with her fiancé, two children, and five dogs. Her daughter is pursuing a degree in marine biology, while her son is thriving in elementary school.
