Get to Know Susan

Susan Fine grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado in an Air Force family.  She moved to North Carolina in 1984 by way of Louisiana where she lived with her husband.  Susan graduated from North Carolina State University Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Statistics.  After obtaining her undergraduate degree Susan was the volunteer coordinator at Hopeline, a 24-hour suicide prevention hotline.  While raising her family and working Susan made the decision to go to law school at North Carolina Central University School of Law.  While in law school she participated on the moot court trial competition team.  Susan was licensed to practice law in North Carolina in 1999, and later became licensed in Colorado, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.

After obtaining her North Carolina license, Susan opened her own practice in Cary, North Carolina and first practiced in real estate transactional law and litigation.  Her practice quickly grew to become a general practice which included family law, contract law, employment landlord/tenant and homeowner law, civil litigation, and criminal law.

In 2015 Susan moved to Brunswick County and practiced family law and homeowner law while employed at Watts Law Group.  In 2017 Susan again opened her own general practice firm in Brunswick County.  Her areas of focus included family law, contract law, residential and commercial property litigation, landlord/tenant and homeowner law, employment law, civil litigation, and traffic law.

In April 2024, Susan returned to Wake County to work for the North Carolina Department of Justice in workers compensation law before deciding to return to the practice of family law.  Susan understands that the practice of family law often involves a client who is at an emotional or vulnerable place in their life and takes great care to represent the whole person while managing the client’s legal needs.  Susan is excited to be at Pennington and Brienzi and is eager to put her more than 25 years of experience to work.

Susan’s personal time is spent walking her dog, listening to music, reading, playing violin, and an occasional board or card game.
